Tsunami Aftermath in Sri Lanka

An earthquake in the Indian Ocean at the end of 2004 was the trigger of a series of tsunamis in south-east Asia, with waves of up to 30 meters high. Over 230,000 people in 14 countries were killed and millions more were displaced. The extent of the world-wide effort was in correlation to the size of the natural disaster: some 14 billion US dollars were donated by the world in humanitarian aid.

In Sri Lanka, more than 40,000 people were killed and over 1 million people were displaced.
